Do you want to help shape Denmark’s railway timetable? Are you intrigued by complex planning challenges?
Imagine gaining practical experience while contributing to solutions that affect thousands of customers every day.
As the Danish railway is evolving with new signalling, electrification, and rolling stock, we are looking for a student to help us turn complexity into workable timetable solutions.
Start your career in DSB’s Timetable Planning team You will join a team of nine in an open office environment, working with timetable planning for regional and long-distance services across Denmark.
We create the annual timetable, adjust it throughout the year to accommodate track works, and plan rolling stock to match capacity with demand.
You will be paired with an experienced colleague, and the whole team is always ready to help.
Our team brings together different perspectives: some of us have engineering backgrounds, while others know the railway from traffic dispatching.
We value curious minds and use our diverse experience to create robust planning solutions that help our customers get where they need to be on time.
“In the team, we are responsible from taking over a strategic timetable and - in cooperation with stakeholders - transforming it to operation. This requires people with various mindsets and one thing in common: wanting to create a good result.
Personally, I get to see how planning and connecting analytical tasks are done in practice. When I ride the trains that we planned the timetable for, I see passengers using a connection that I worked on to provide.”
says Norbert, our former Junior Consultant, who is now joining our sister team in a permanent role.
About the job We imagine that you work approx. 15-20 hours a week. We will coordinate your working hours together, considering your exam periods and other obligations.
You can get a free DSB train pass for work and personal use.
As a Junior Consultant in the team, you will work on a variety of tasks depending on your interests and skills.
A typical day might begin with work on the annual timetable, where you analyze challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop possible solutions.
Afterwards, you might support the planning for the introduction of DSB’s new IC5 rolling stock, expected to enter service in spring 2027.
After lunch, you could be working on improving our services in cooperation with international partners governing DSB’s new Talgo trains and ComfortJet coaches.
On other days, you may analyze running time data to support punctual and robust timetables.
Recurring tasks may also include coordination, planning support, and administrative follow-up.
Who are you? We are looking for a new colleague with an interest in planning, particularly in railway operations.
You enjoy working with people from different backgrounds, you follow through on your tasks and are confident in asking for help when needed.
You probably have around 1½ - 2 years left of your studies.
Professional qualifications
- Experience with complex problem solving, from your studies or from work
- You have solid English skills and are willing to learn Danish or already speak it. You should be comfortable working in an environment where Danish is the primary language.
- You are currently pursuing an academic degree in engineering, mathematics, or similar
What can DSB offer you? All our students, interns, and recent graduates are invited to join our Young Professionals' Network - an internal network, managed by its members and supported by HR.
This is where you meet for socializing, business inputs, and professional discussions.
You can look forward to
- Developing your capabilities and skills
- Flexible working hours
- Free travel with DSB
- Access to DSB’s gym and attractive staff benefits, including discounts at fitness centers
- Employment according to the collective agreement between DSB and "Akademikerne" (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations)
