Do you want to break new ground in technology development and implementation in the District Heating industry?
The fault management and maintenance/renovation practices in district heating networks are currently limited to reactive or preventive approaches. These inefficient practices pose significant challenges to the performance of modern district heating systems. Furthermore, the aging infrastructure of many district heating systems necessitates constant renovation. However, the existing approach to renovation planning is suboptimal and lacks a proactive strategy. Addressing these challenges is crucial for improving the performance and reliability of district heating systems. We have an opening at DTU Engineering Technology for a PhD-student on developing Prescriptive Analytics tool for District Heating Networks addressing these challenges.
You will become a member of the AI, Mathematics, and Software research group at DTU Engineering Technology under the supervision of Associate professor Maryamsadat Tahavori from DTU Engineering Technology.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your primary tasks will be to
- Conduct research in the intersection between academia and the industry
- Write academic papers aimed at high-impact journals
- Participate in international conferences and workshop
- Disseminate research results and teach as part of the overall PhD education
- Learn the role of the researcher and the specific tasks how to conduct research
- Participate in teaching and student project supervision
Please note that the responsibilities may still vary based on individual circumstances and project requirements.
You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree in fields such as Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
We are looking for an ambitious, self-organized individual with curiosity and deep interests in how new technologies can be usefully applied in industry. Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in AI/ML, particularly Python, and familiarity with data analysis libraries, frameworks, and data visualization tools are essential. A solid knowledge and experience of using AI/Machine Learning, data analytics, data visualization or optimization is necessary. Prior research experience and understanding of district heating (DH) networks, including their components, operation, and maintenance, would be beneficial. Strong communication skills in spoken and written English are also a requirement.
